• Do I need 20/20 vision to be a pilot?

The answer to this common question is a resounding ''NO!''The reason that I post this particular question is that there is a common misconception out there that you need 20/20 vision or that you can't have had laser eye surgery to get a flight slot. These rules have been relaxed considerably since 1997 (and some before that). I have a bunch of ...

  • Re: Please drown me in info.

You are embarking on a great quest...and man I wish I started when I was as young as you. There are about 4 million pieces of advice that I could send your way, but let me tell you the most important: don't get in trouble. There are a ton of ways to get into the service and fly jets, but they all start to fade away if you have problems in your ...

  • Re: Do I still have a good shot?

Goose,Have I got some great news for you. While the USAF and the Navy might care about your grades, I can tell you from experience that the Marine Corps could care less...you just need to cross the 2.0 threshold. As a Marine fighter pilot myself, I have seen some amazing pilots who would not have gotten into the USAF or the Navy because of grades ...

  • Re: i want to be a pilot but have questions

In addition to the USAFA link, here are the limits for the Navy and Marine Corps:62 to 78 inches (Navy male)66 to 78 inches (Marine male)58 to 78 inches (Navy / Marine female)There are always waivers for that kind of thing as well...the key is knowing how to get one...of course, like others said, don't worry about that now, just get good ...

  • Re: What do fighter pilots do when they get older?

When fighter pilots get older...say 22, they do paperwork. Its just one of those things they don't mention in TopGun.

  • Re: Steps to becoming a military pilot

Killtron,First, you definitely want to go the military route if you want to fly professionally...trust me on that one. Next, don't worry about the AFOQT (for now). Step one is to decide on a service (AF, Navy, Marines), then a program (ROTC, OTS, PLC, OCC, etc...). With that you need to ask yourself if you want money for college or free time during

  • Re: becoming a fighter pilot

Fransisco,In addition to the many pieces of good advice on this post, let me tell you what I think is your greatest asset right now. Your post said: ''I am a freshman in high school.'' This means that you have options. I joined the Marines out of college and had only one real option (OCS). You've got the Service Academies, ROTC, and OCS ...
