  • Re: Finance Major wanting to fly

For the active duty AF, you can try for OTS and a pilot slot out of there. The odds aren't great, but they aren't zero. Guard and Reserve units have a different process (that I am unfamiliar with), but can end up with a pilot slot. Of course the USN and USMC also have fighters, but I don't know about their commissioning and selection programs.

  • Re: Choosing a Major for obtaining a slot and a successful pilot career?

Have you talked to the leadership at your unit about it? Technically, the AF prefers hard science or engineering types, but I don't know what effect, if any, that has on selection. There are plenty of non-techie degree holding pilots out there.

  • Re: Would I still qualify for flying an F-22?

First, you'll need to complete a commissioning program, as only officers are pilots in the AF. For active duty, the options are the Air Force Academy, AFROTC at a civilian college, or AFOTS after you graduate college. Next, you will need to get a pilot slot out of your commissioning program. Of course you will need to pass a Class I flight ...

  • Re: becoming a fighter pilot

NO! DO NOT GET LASIK OR PRK WITHOUT MILITARY APPROVAL! Doing so may disqualify you from being a pilot in the USAF. If you can pass a Class I flight physical, you can be medically qualified to be a pilot. Perfect vision is NOT required. You must be within certain limits and correctable (i.e. glasses or contacts) to 20/20.

  • Re: What and where

It depends. For the Air force, active duty student pilots will find out what type of aircraft they will get at the end of pilot training. Generally, you fly one type of aircraft for your career. However, some aircraft are special duty aircraft, so you only fly those for a few years. If you go Air National Guard, you know what kind of aircraft

  • Re: Do they use Geography or mathematics?

Pilots use many methods for navigation. Sometimes looking for familiar points is easiest. Other times a map and stopwatch are used. GPS is common today, as well. Many airports also have radio direction-finding beacons to use.

  • Re: Dream of flying

Well, you will need to be off adderall for at least a year. That is true. Don't try to hide it, as lying about medical records will get you kicked out of the military. The military doesn't look kindly on people without integrity. Talk to your college's AFROTC officers. They should be able to fill you in about the process for applying. You'll ...

  • Re: Military pilot options

C5s are more stable than most aircraft, as there are only a couple bases for them, but you would still likely be moving every few years if you go active duty.

  • Re: ANG Pilot Training

To be a pilot, you need to be an officer. To be an officer, you need a degree. So, first thing would be to get a college degree. Go talk to your local guard unit, as they could probably tell you the best information.

  • Re: Can I make it?

I don't know if there are any other posters from Portugal here. You really need to ask someone with knowledge of the Portugese AF.
