  • Anyone knows the aviation metrology?

Can anyone answer the questions on aviation metrology? 1. How is the height of the troposphere affected by ground temperature and pressure? Is higher ground temperature means higher troposphere height? 2. Someone said there is temperature inversion when the ground temperature is low. What is the temperature inversion rate for different sea level ...

  • Please Help! HS Senior in Distress

Greeting! I'm a high school senior, and I'm in a dliemma right now. First of all, I have applied to both, Annapolis and Air Force Academy. From what I've been told is that I will have no problem being accepted to either. The problem is, my congressman can only give me one nomination, either Annapolis or Air Force. Since I was a kid, I have always ...

  • I live in Australia with US citizenship and want to be a US pilot

Unfortunately i did bad at school here, but am currently repeating maths. What are my chances, especially after living in Australia all my life. I am 19 now. Do you require high grades or passes to apply or can you take tests to determine your eligibility and if so, what are the tests like, mathematically. In Aus here, you cannot even apply unless ...

  • Re: becoming a fighter pilot

Once you have completed a 4-year college degree (in any major, from Aeronautical Engineering to History) and meet the physical criteria, you will have to complete Introductory Flight Training (IFT) or earn your FAA Private Pilot's Certificate on your own. Then, you are given an Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) start date. Once your start date ...

  • Re: Question for Naval Aviators

Yes, they must be steaming at a minimum speed to give a headwind to the aircraft. ''To make takeoff a little easier, carriers can get additional airflow over the flight deck by speeding through the ocean, into the wind, in the direction of takeoff. This air moving over the wings lowers the plane's minimum takeoff ...

  • ETOPS would be a thing of past?

I don't think so. There are flights having diversion time as long as 8 hours, such as South America - Australia flights over the Antarctic, and 8 hour ETOPS is impossible (A huge amount of fuel reserve is needed for 8 hour diversion at 10,000 feet, which uses much more fuel than cruising altitude!) So twins would never be as flexible as quads.

  • Some opinion on Airbus interior design

Airbus just changed the interior design of A330 / A340, with round-shaped doors for the articulated bins and door handle of round design, thus making them look better. But there is a drawback: The reading lights, ventilation controls and oyxgen masks are now all located at the centre position of the centre bin, so providing less privacy and ...

  • Re: Some opinion on Boeing B777

the 777 is a beautiful piece of engineering. I feel just as safe in a twin as in a 4 engine jet. ETOPS will someday be a thing of the past, because long range flights in twins are the thing of the future. After enough twin engine intercontinental time is logged safely in twins, ETOPS will be less restrictive or just as flexible as 4 engine ...
