If someone joined the Selected Reserve with an eight year agreement, and then wanted to transfer to active duty after they had served, say three years, could they then transfer to active duty with an 5 year agreement to active duty, or would they have to agree to serve for another ten years?

What are the advantages of the AFR and why would  someone want to join the Reserve over Active Duty? What are the benefits of the Reserve?Any help I can get, I would appreciate.

My goal is to become a fighter pilot in the USAF, but is for some reason that does not work out, I would really like to know my other options. I just don't want to ''put all my eggs in one basket'' if you know what I mean. Besides, it would be very foolish to join the AF and not know how long I am in for.
