How do I apply from China??

I have a few questions here, so if you could answer them, that would be great.

    1. Would I ever be required to fly or jump?

    2. Could I move of to get a bachelors degree or PhD?

    3. How do I apply if I was born in America, am an American citizen, but live in China?

Re: How do I apply from China??

Usually flying and parachute programs are entirely voluntary...and are competitive to get into.  Now, if you mean "will I be required to pilot an aircraft?" the answer is probably not.  If you mean, "Will I be required to fly somewhere?" the answer is yes.

The Academy is a college.  You will get your B.S. degree here.  There are several ways to get advanced degrees after graduation.

I don't know the application process for US citizens in foreign countries, but you could contact admissions at this address or phone number to find out.

What if I did go on to the academy and graduated.  During my 5 years of service afterward, would I be required to fly aircrafts?  I don't mean fly in them.

Re: How do I apply from China??

Like I said earlier, pilot slots are competitive and there are usually more people that want them than actually qualify.  So, unless several hundred pilot wannabe's droped out, no.

The "needs of the Air Force" reign supreme though.  If the AF decides that they NEED everyone qualified to be a pilot, guess what...  That is NOT likely to happen.

Why exactly do you want to go to the Academy, if you don't wan't to be a pilot (considering over half of each class goes on to pilot training)?  That is kind of like going to MIT if you don't want to be an engineer.

I think you miss understood me.  I have no problem with flying it's just not my top priority.  When I was little, I told my family I wanted to be a pilot and my brother said girls couldn't go to space. My dad sat us down and showed us the NASA website and the biographies of all the women astronauts. That really encouraged me to shot for the stars, literally.  I don’t have a problem with flying, I mean, I love it, and living in China, I have to fly all the time, but, its just not the first on my list.  As for jumping, I’ve never done it, and I’m a bit skeptical, but I’m always up for new things.

Re: How do I apply from China??

Because I have some experience and a few connections, and because there aren't many other active posters here with USAF info.

So what did you do in high school to set you apart from the other people applying to the academy?  Did you join any special groups or clubs?  I know it’s a good idea to be in boy/ girl scouts.

Re: How do I apply from China??

I had a 3.95 GPA, a 34 ACT score, was an Eagle Scout (and a very active leader in my troop), Captained the Knowledge Bowl team at my school, played tennis, volunteered at my church, and did a few other little things.  My academics made up for my weakness in athletics, so I still made it into the academy.
