• JSF

*** Posted by Rapier *** Hi Run, Is it true that the Danish AF is seriously involved in the development of the JSF program? I've just read from a reliable source that the Danish AF will have purchased a large batch of the JSF aircraft to eventually replace all the F-16's. Is this true? Regards Rapier

  • Re:Zig-Zag lines on the canopy

*** Posted by Rapier *** Hi Run, Are there lines on the canopy to help the pilot when engaging an enemy aircraft? I think it's something to do with helping the pilot make the right AOA when falling on a bandit's tail? Oh one interesting thing to mention is that I've seen some fighters with canopy's painted on the underneath side of the cockpit

  • Re:Flying at Night

*** Posted by Rapier *** Hi Chris, It is difficult to fly at night so as a result you have to rely on your instruments and pay close attention to them at all times. Pilots should also look outside the cockpit to look for any other aircraft or point of reference (if possible). Say for instance an airfield that is fairly close by can easily be ...

  • Re:Flying at Night

*** Posted by run *** Hi there It is correct that it can be disorienting to fly at night. It can be hard to see the horizon at night and lights on the ground can start to look like stars and that can really mess with your head. Then you have to thrust your instruments and believe in what they are telling you. run [Recently I had a ...

*** Posted by MAP *** Ohh - Another reason to wear a helmet :-) [Hi that is eksplosives that will chatter the canopy if you eject. On most fighters the whole canopy is ejected, so they don't have the lines. run For what purpose is the ''zig-zag lines'' on the canopy of a fighter used ? ]

  • Flying at Night

*** Posted by Chris Gilliland *** Recently I had a conversation about how pilots get disoriented flying at night. My theory is since you have no visual point of reference and low visibility, flying at night is much more difficult than flying during daylight hours. I have read that pilots have gotten so caught up with flight logistics that they ...
