  • Airline focus: Air Greenland

Air Greenland is probably the airline with worst operating conditions, as Greenland has over 80% of its land covered by ice cap, and almost all small towns / villages do not have airports, and have only heliports. There are only 8 airports in Greenland, only only 2 of them jet capable. This explains why Air Greenland has many helicopters, but only ...

  • Smoking policies of airlines

There was no clear medical evidence for harmfulness of smoking before 1970's, so smoking was allowed in any airlines. USA is one of the earliest state to understand smoking is harmful for others' health, so US FAA banned smoking on all US domestic flights since 1979. But smoking is still allowed on most international flights. Air Canada is the ...

  • Airlines having full widebody fleet

Most airlines having long haul service operate domestic routes of high frequency and mostly served by single aisles. So there are not many airlines having full widebody operation. I think Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Air India are examples. Can anyone name more examples?

  • Airline focus: American Trans Air (ATA)

American Trans Air (ATA) can have its history traced back to a private air travel club, Ambassadair, founded in 1973, with only one Boeing 720. 1981 is an important year for ATA, as it is certified as a chartered carrier since then. It initiated scheduled service between Indianapolis and Ft. Myers in 1986. It also introduced L-1011 since then. ...

  • (Least) favorite airline alliance

There are 4 major airline alliances in the world: 1. One World - consists of Aer Lingus, American, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Lanchile and Qantas. (Note: Asia Miles consists of above listed airlines, plus Asiana, China Eastern, Dragonair, Japan Airlines, Japan Asia Airways and Swiss Air Lines, so not regarded as separate ...

  • Small US carriers seek bigger business market

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/business/special_packages/business_monday/4426434.htm It stated that Spirit Airlines, a low cost airline, would set up a new Spirit Plus class, with leather seats in upgraded coach, free snacks and cocktails. Its fare is very low, just US$40 premium per trip. National Airlines, which offers First Class like ...

  • Large Chinese-built ship to carry A380 components

From Airbus4U http://www.airbus.com/airbus4u/articles_detail.asp?ae_id=101 Airbus would use Ro-Ro ships instead of Super Transporters to transport A380 components. What a pride for Chinese to buit a ship for transporting A380 components! But we can't see the proposed A340-600ST for transporting A380 components! What a pity!

  • The dual side boarding gate idea

There is still no airport featuring boarding gates on both sides of an aircraft, so all passengers have to be congested on left side of the aircraft. So I think building boarding gates on both sides of the aircraft in the same parking space can greatly improve turnaround time very easily especially for widebodies.

  • Carry-on baggage policies of airlines

The airlines in the world have very different carry-on baggage policies. British Airways has very strict carry-on baggage policy, allowing Economy Class passengers to carry only one piece of baggage (22'' x 16'' x 8'') into cabin, and no more than 6kg/13lb, not even an additional suitcase nor a laptop. Economy Plus, Business and First Class ...

  • Airline focus: Austrian Airlines Group

Austrian Airlines Group, Austria's only airline group, holds Austrian Airlines and Lauda Air of with very different origins and opposite fleet selection (almost all Airbus for Austrian and all Boeing for Lauda), and Tyrolean which flies only European services with regional aircrafts. Austrian was started in 1957. Because of the neutral nature of ...
