  • What do you think of USA domestic air transport deregulation?

The USA domestic air transport is deregulated for 25 years, since 1978. Airlines can operate any routes with any schedules, as well as any fares and levels of services since then, provided the FAA safety procedures are all met. Such fierce competition makes the USA domestic flights with lowest fare per passenger km, thus making much more people ...

  • What closed airline do you want to reopen most?

What closed airline do you want to reopen most? I think Canadian is the one wanted to be reopened most, as there is very little competition in Canadian air transport after the purchasing of Canadian by Air Canada, thus making airfare very high.

  • If there is Rolls Royce engine option on all variants of B767

There is long range middle size aircraft in the market - Boeing B767-200/-300. But Cathay Pacific refused to intorduce any models of B767 simply because there is no Rolls Royce engine option on B767 other than -300 variant (not even -300ER ones), and Cathay Pacific uses only aircarfts with Rolls Royce engines other than A340-300 (because Cathay ...

  • Virgin's GBP1 offer for Concorde fleet!!

http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,6275868%255E401,00.html Richard Branson, the head of Virgin Atlantic, said the airline would consider buying the Concordes, which is going to retire from British Airways' passenger service since Oct 2003, if the price of each Concorde is GBP1 or less. This may mean Richard Branson is ...

  • What? Cathay Pacific operated A340-200?

What? Cathay Pacific NEVER operated A340-200, and operated only A340-300. I agree that Paris - Japan / Korea / Beijing routes are the only routes of Air France flying over extreme area (Siberia), but I don't think this is a reason for Air France to fly both B777-200LR/-300ER and A340-500/-600 if there is GE engine option on A340-500/-600. It costs

  • Miscellaneous air talks (2003-03-01)

    1. Alaska Airlines joins Asia Miles since 28 Jan 2003. How good the news is! Those travel Alaska Airlines frequently, especially Alaska residents, can get extra miles usable for 13 other partners, including American Airlines! (http://www.asiamiles.com/am/1,,22535_89468_eng_,00.html) 2. Asiana, however, leaves Asia Miles since 28 Feb 2003, as ...

  • Re: A340 fleet achieves record operational reliability

What? B777 is first delivered in 1995, and Cathay Pacific operates A330/A340 only since 1996 (though B777-200ER entered the market since 1998.) Air France uses nothing other than GE engines and CFM engines, which is a 50 / 50 joint venture between GE and Snecma of France. But there is no GE engine option on A340-500/-600, and GE engine is the sole

  • Re: A340 fleet achieves record operational reliability

Then can anyone tell the reason why Cathay Pacific refuses to introduce B777-200ER and go for A340-300 instead?

  • Yeah! Iberia drops B777-300ER for A340-600!

Iberia announced it would drop B777-300ER and switch to A340-600 instead after extensive evaluation. This makes Iberia the 12th airline to select A340-500/-600, and the order of 9 from Iberia increases total order of A340-500/-600 to 81. This makes the A340-600 the 1st Rolls-Royce powered aircraft of Iberia, which uses only GE / CFM engines for ...

  • Aviation joke: Kerguluen Airport

The French Government once considered building an airport on the Kerguluen Island, an island of French Southern and Antarctic Lands, which is located at Southern Indian Ocean (43S 67E), but the project is abandoned because of lack of fresh water supply. (http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/fs.html) This makes no alternate airport ...
