• ETOPS & LROPS

Airbus supported ETOPS since 1970's because Airbus did not produce any intercontinental aircrafts before 1983, when A310 and A300-600 were introduced. ETOPS is mainly used for non-transocean routes, so airlines can use more economical twins for such routes. But ETOPS is not suitable for long transocean routes, especially for routes going via ...

  • Re: A380 - Who'll Fly It?

Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, Air France ordered A380, and they would be used for high passenger routes like Europe - USA, Sydney - USA / London. The freighter version is ordered by Fedex.

  • Middle bins removal on A340

Yes there are some aircrafts having middle bins removed in A340 especially in First Class, because there are fewer passengers in First Class and each passenger takes up more floor space, so less amount of storage per unit length is needed than economy Class. There are even some short haul carriers have their A300/A310/A330/A340 without middle bins.

  • Government investment in airlines

There were no commercial airlines before WW1, and most airlines set up between the 2 world wars (1918-1939) are privately owned without government investment. WW2 makes many airlines ceased their commercial service and hence near-bankruptcy situation, so most airlines are purchsed by the government of their nations. This also caused forced merger ...

  • B777 is of superior interior design??

What? B777 is of superior interior design? Its cabin is so wide that airlines cannot install only 6 normal long haul business class seats economically, so most airlines use 7-abreast design, thus making passengers have to suffer middle seat. This also makes airlines cannot install 8 normal economy class seats per row economically, and have to ...

  • Re: A340 fleet achieves record operational reliability

You should be noted that twinjets like B777 are subjected to ETOPS constraint, so they cannot fly over remote areas with ETOPS no-go zones, like the poles, southern hemisphere oceans. So twinjets have to use much longer routing rather than shortest great circle route used by quadjets like A340. Thus my comparison between B777 & A340 is not ...

  • The preference of long haul economy classes

Some airlines, like United, Continental, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, set up Economy Plus classes to make long haul trips more comfortable. But the number of such seats are limited, and their fares are much higher than that of Economy Class, except United, which only Star Alliance high grade members and passengers pyaing full fare ticket can ...

  • A340 fleet achieves record operational reliability

http://www.airbus.com/airbus4u/articles_detail.asp?ae_id=84 It said Airbus A340 has quad engined design, so airlines can always use the most direct route between the 2 destinations, rather than indirect route with no ETOPS no-go zone en route used by twinjets like B777. It also said A340 has much lower diversion rate, about 2-3 times better than ...

  • Airline focus: Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines (PAL), Philippine's flag carrier, is founded by a Philippines leading industrialist, Andres Soriano in Feb 1941. It started operations with a single Beech Model 18 aircraft making one flight daily between Manila and Baguio. September 1941 is a very important month for PAL, because the Philippines Government invests PAL since ...

  • Aircrafts with best / worst actual : expected sales ratio

As the title suggests, an aircraft with good actual : expected sales ratio means an aircarft having many actual sales than expected. Boeing B727 is the aircraft with best actual : expected sales ratio, with expected orders of just 200, but actual deliveries of 1800. On the other hand, Concorde is the Western aircarft with worst actual / expected ...
