    Boeing: More job cuts necessary next year

    http://www.nj.com/newsflash/business/index.ssf?/cgi-free/getstory_ssf.cgi?j8867_BC_Boeing-JobCuts&&news&newsflash-financial

    Boeing is going to cut another 5000 jobs in its commercial airplane division, from 65000 to 60000. It is expected to deliver 275-285 jets in 2003 instead of 380 jets in 2002.

    Boeing claimed this is because of the fall of airline business since 11 Sep 2001 and reduced orders.

    But why the competitor, Airbus, does not need to cut jobs after 11 Sep 2002, and on the contrary, increases the number of jobs?

    The proves Boeing aircarfts are getting less welcomed among airlines, mainly because of the lack of commonality among its aircrafts. If fact the lack of commonality among different variants of B737NG makes SAS, which operates many B737-600/-700/-800, choose A321 instead of B737-900. This also makes EVA Air, which operates only Boeing before ordering A330, refused to introduce B767-400 and switch to A330-300 instead, as B767-400 has cockpit totally different to B767-200/-300, and hence 25 days of full type rate training is needed.
