[As you know, the F16 has no warning receiver for an IR missile shot.
How do you know that an IR missile is in the air and comes towards you?]

    Hi Tiger,

you will not have any warning if an IR missle is fired at you this also goes for IR SAM missles as well. When you are in your threat area you (and your wingman) will have to keep looking around to see if any have been fired at your package. If you do spot one comming in from your six the pilot will have to drop flare and chaff, break a hard right (or left) and break low because this will not cause the fighter to lose too much speed while turning hard. Try and get the missle on a 90 degree path if it's still heading towards you then at about 3 miles begin to pull up and into the missle while dropping flare again. Remember that the missle is flying towards you at a faster speed than you are going and you use it's speed to your advantage by reducing/increasing your speed to perform a bank with the best turn rate to ensure you have a good chance to escape. You must also remember that a missle does not really need to impact your aircraft most missle have a high detonation and they can explode 100 feet away and still do some serious damage to your aircraft, if not kill the pilot as well. Some people think that IR missles go for the tail pipe, this is true in some respects but some missle have been designed to explode near the cockpit area of targeted aircraft to kill the pilot. No pilot and the plane cant fly. Two birds with one stone.
