Re: HS Freshman looking into USAFA~

First, let me refer you to the official information:  www.academyadmissions.com

You look like you will be very strong on academics.  Academics are 60% of the Whole Candidate Score (what admissions uses).

You really should have at least one sport.  It does not need to be school related.  Club sports, competitive martial arts, etc. work too.

Leadership--you really need to have some leadership experience.  It can be things like club president, class president/treasurer/etc, boy scout leadership, CAP leadership, or a variety of other things.  The important thing is to be involved in at least a couple things and also lead.

Re: HS Freshman looking into USAFA~

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah, I'm trying to get into martial arts right now, and maybe fencing too. Also trying to get a chapter of NHS started up at my school. I think the leadership might work itself out on it's own with some of the stuff we're doing at school, but if it doesn't start looking up soon, I'll have to take some initiative and all that. I could start an afterschool soccer club at a nearby school or something.

Honestly, does it help or hurt any that I'm a girl? I did hear about the "rape scandal", but I'm not sure how much of that's true and how much of it's still a problem.

Being a girl does not really influence anything for applying.

The rape scandal was in 2003.  The academy took MANY steps to correct the problem.  Cadets are now some of the most knowledgeable students about sexual assault and prevention.   We are very protective of our friends and classmates.
