  • The aircraft development policies of Boeing and Airbus

Boeing develops only twin engined aircarfts except for B747. It even developed B777-200LR of twin-engined design and 16000km range. This makes many ailrines especially those of Southern Hemisphere, refused to buy B777 and switch to A340 instead because of ETOPS-free design of A340. In fact Varig of Brazil is the only airline in Southern Hemisphere ...

  • What if you have to start an airline?

What routes would you operate if you have to start an airline? I would operate an Okinawa-based airline, with routes to Taipei and Kaohsuing of Taiwan, and central Chinese cities like Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xian, Zhengzhou, so passengers can travel between Central China and Taiwan with least time by ...

  • Aviation joke: Boeing B797 ultra-large twin!

Boeing saw the huge success of A380 spuerjumbo in 2008, so they decided to develop a new superjumbo called B797, which is to be delivered in 2014. They decided the B797 should be of twin-engined design for better fuel economy compared to A380. The B797 is solely powered by two newly developed GE180 160,000-180,000lb class engines. It has fan tip ...

  • Anyone knows the aviation metrology?

Can anyone answer the questions on aviation metrology? 1. How is the height of the troposphere affected by ground temperature and pressure? Is higher ground temperature means higher troposphere height? 2. Someone said there is temperature inversion when the ground temperature is low. What is the temperature inversion rate for different sea level ...

  • ETOPS would be a thing of past?

I don't think so. There are flights having diversion time as long as 8 hours, such as South America - Australia flights over the Antarctic, and 8 hour ETOPS is impossible (A huge amount of fuel reserve is needed for 8 hour diversion at 10,000 feet, which uses much more fuel than cruising altitude!) So twins would never be as flexible as quads.

  • Some opinion on Airbus interior design

Airbus just changed the interior design of A330 / A340, with round-shaped doors for the articulated bins and door handle of round design, thus making them look better. But there is a drawback: The reading lights, ventilation controls and oyxgen masks are now all located at the centre position of the centre bin, so providing less privacy and ...

  • The Airbus A330/A340 cabin view changed!

Airbus changed its A330/A340 cabin view on its website, with new cabin views of new 6-abreast Z-shaped bed business class, 7-abreast premium economy class and an -abreast and narrow seat pitch inclusive tour class added. (http://www.airbus.com/product/a330_a340_comfort.asp) All 6 cabin views, including the old 4-abreast flat bed first class, ...

  • Taiwan - China air route agreements + questions

The related authorities of Taiwan and China finally came an agreement of Taiwan - China air routes. The aircrafts serving these routes, like Taipei - Shanghai routes operated by Far East Airlines and China Airlines of Taiwan, have to land at Hong Kong. These makes the route much longer than the direct route, though this is faster than transit in ...

  • Flight attendant uniform of airlines

Airline is international business, so most airlines have their attendants wearing Westerm-style uniforms, like shirt and a skirt for women, shirt, tie and trousers for man. But some Asian airlines have their flight attendants wearing non-Western style uniforms, like 'Cheong Sam' (a long Chinese dress with narrow cutting) for China Airlines of ...
