And to my knowledge those planes has been tranferred to XingJiang Airlines.
I am living in Sydney, Air China used to use B747-400 for the route, but few years ago they have changed it to B777.
It is very rear to see a Air China A340.
The only major airline in China extensively uses Airbus is China Eastern.
China Premier visits Airbus

http://www.airbus.com/dynamic/media/press_releases.asp

China Premier Zhu Rongji visited the mockup interior of A340 and A380, and was impressed with their good design.

He also said Airbus' manufacture system which can accomodate varying demands is suitable for China's need, which needs many aircarfts by Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Can't wait to see A380 in Chinese carrier colours!

(P. S. Why Chinese carriers have so different long haul fleet choices, with China Southern the only Mainland Chinese carrier operating B777, China Eastern, Air China and even China Southwest operating A340, and China Southern uses its A340 for its routes to Lhasa?)
